Case Method Interviewing

This method is usually used by management consulting firms and large corporations.

  • Employers use this method to assess if you think logically, have problem solving skills and know business principles.
  • Classic business cases are given to test analytic ability, the ability to sort out key facts and stay focused.
  • Some consulting firms think that this is the best test of a typical consulting situation for a new business analyst.
  • Example: An example is given of a company in a growth industry. Questions are asked about that company. Should company X add capacity? Now should Company X react to a new competitor? Should Company X exit an old market?
  • You might be asked some special cases which would test your ability to deal with ambiguity and be creative.
  • Examples: What do you think interest rates will do next and why?
