Paragraph I: Express interest in the profession, industry, company, or organization.

Why do you want to work for them? (or work in that profession and/or industry, if an informational interview)

I am writing to you because I am very interested in XYZ organization, a leader in the field of ABC.

Paragraph II: Refer to your resume.

What experience, skills or knowledge do you have to offer them?

As you can see by my resume, I have extensive experience in the field of ABC. I also have knowledge of ABC field through my studies at George Washington University. Through my experiences and academic background, I have acquired XYZ skills (research, writing, analysis, marketing, administrative, financial) which will be an asset in your field of endeavor.

Paragraph III: Include regional expertise, if appropriate.

I also have proven ability to function in ABC region, having lived, worked, or traveled there and I speak XYZ language(s).

Paragraph IV: The follow-up. Express your intent and desire to meet with them personally.

Thank you for your attention and consideration. I look forward to meeting you and discussing how I can contribute to XYZ organization. I will call you in two weeks to set up an appointment.
